Communication Red Flags

• No babbling by 12 months
• No single words by 16 months
• No two-word phrases by 24 months
• Loss of previously acquired speech or language skills
• Does not use gestures (pointing, waving) by 12 months
• Difficulty following simple verbal instructions
• Repeats words or phrases out of context (echolalia)

Social Red Flags

• Limited or no eye contact
• Does not respond to their name when called
• Does not point to show interest in objects or events
• Does not wave goodbye
• Prefers to play alone rather than with other children
• Difficulty understanding other people's feelings or emotions
• Does not share enjoyment or interests with others
• Limited or no imitation of others' actions

Behavioral Red Flags

• Repetitive movements such as hand flapping, rocking, or spinning
• Insistence on sameness — distress when routines change
• Unusual or intense reactions to sensory input (sounds, textures, lights)
• Intense, narrow focus on specific interests or objects
• Difficulty with transitions between activities
• Lines up toys or objects repeatedly
• Unusual attachment to specific objects
• Tip-toe walking or unusual gait
